I heart music!

So, crazy random assortment of songs. And I have to reiterate: She Wolf is an amazing song and the video rocks my socks. I can't stop watching.  (And yes - I know, I know. Kesha is on this list... I really dislike Kesha, but that song has a good beat and unfortunately it's super catchy!)

Because that's how horses talk... 

So, I spent this weekend visiting friends (human and equine) that I haven't seen in a while and had a ridiculously fun time. We all went for a trail ride on Saturday afternoon then later we played some games and had some laughs.  And then there was Sunday - oh dear...  I got a chance to ride the amazing barrel racing horse, Slapshot, for the first time ever. Rode him bareback with no bridle - just a halter and reins. He is a phenomenal horse and quite lovely to ride. That is unless he's barreling down forest trails... 

Though I made it through the woods without any major mishaps, the pasture was another story... Heading up a giant hill, I think Slapshot and Calibur decided they wanted to race to the top, because once Calibur took off, Slapshot needed to follow and hr bolted up the hill.  He won. I didn't. Instead, I had a rather rough and somewhat painful introduction to the ground, A over T-K.  It wasn't too terrible at the time, but has since resulted in a bruised and sore lower back, and some pretty mean whiplash...

I've really never understood the whole "boob storage" thing... But, I was on a trip with a good friend of mine this past weekend, and while walking from the hotel to the KwikTrip down the road for some coffee - she slipped the hotel key away for safe keeping. I couldn't resist blurting out the perfect LotR quote for just such an occasion... WIN!

I think I need my bangs cut... I feel  like a sheepdog for crying out loud.  I don't think I can cut them myself again though - you'd think after doing it a fair number of times that I would be better at it, but that's definitely not the case...

No, kitty. No, I do not need your help.  Okay, there was supposed to be more to this comic, but I ran out of steam and it was just meant to be a super fast sketch anyways.  I really need to learn to keep these "quick" sketches quick, and not worry about making them perfect...
So, this is my goal for the rest of the year: one quick comic a week - and keep it loose!
Also, I plan on continuing with my monthly self-portraits - which should prove to be an interesting venture...

Sedna in the works

Been working on my graphic novel for the last few days...

inspiration for Sedna

The wonderful Jackie at LovesickRobot is doing awesome work on the script for my Sedna book, which has inspired me to start working on it again!  So, I was trying to work on a cover and I came up with the idea of using the dog - which more than likely will not be my cover, but I liked it so much I thought I would post it.  I think I want the cover to be more simple, minimal, with lots of white space...  we shall see.   Also there's just some quick sketches of what her body could look like...

sedna character design

I started some character design for my graphic novel! Well, I started with some drawings of her face a while ago, but I really need to think about her body... I know this may look weird but I like the idea - just have to figure out how to make it look a bit more... hmmmm... not sure if I can find a good word for what I'm trying to explain. A bit more something... Gotta work on it.

sedna sketches

Sketches for the main character in a possible comic I'd like to create based on an Inuit myth about Sedna. I did the illustration on the bottom a while ago and never finished it. The sketches on the top are brand-spanking new.

I was also recently inspired after reading the lovely Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics, and a comic I picked up while in Ireland a few years ago called An Tain - which tells of the epic tale from Ireland. I also took a look at my friend's ZvR - featuring amazing artwork by Mr. Ashley Wood! And I loooove the art in Hellboy and An Tain (which is colored using watercolor - beautiful) and it made me want to create a graphic novel telling Sedna's story.
